about general dentitstry

Creating smiles doesn’t always involve intesive cosmetic dentistry or surgery. But it could if you do not maintain good dental practices. Good dental hygene is important and our general dentistry services will help keep your smile healthy and clean, preventing future issues that may require extensive work.
Dental Cleaning
A dental hygienist will inspect your mouth for inflammation, cavities, or any other concerns. From there, the dental hygienist will remove plaque and tartar from around your gum line and between your teeth. The more you brush and floss, the less tartar and plaque build up you’ll have. Once you have tartar, you can only have it removed at the dentist office.

After scrapping for plaque and tartar, the dental hygienist will brush your teeth with a special toothpaste and brushing tool.
After brushing, your teeth will be flossed and be able to get to hard to reach areas you may not be able to reach when flossing at home. This also removes any left over toothpaste or plaque.

Lastly you’ll receive a fluoride treatment to help protect your mouth to fight cavities.
You may be asked back for other procedures if the dentist finds any issues such as needing sealants, fillings, or or crowns.
Dental Fillings
Dental fillings help restore a tooth back to it’s normal self in terms of function and looks. A filling requires the removal of the decayed parts of the tooth and then is cleaned out and restored with a filling material. This helps stop further decay and restores your tooth to it’s optimal function and aesthetics. Filling materials can be gold, composite resin, an alloy, or porcelain.

Only your dentist can tell you if you need a filling instead of a crown or cap. If the decay has reached the nerve, you may need a root canal and then a filling. Your dentist will take x-rays to examine the full extent of your mouth to know the best route and the treatment will depend on the extent of the decay and damage.
